Today on MASTERS OF HORROR we get to chat with Gage Greenwood. Gage is a proud member of the Horror Writers Association and Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association. He's the author of four hit serials on Kindle Vella and you can check those out on his Amazon author page right HERE. He’s also the host of his very own show, Gage Greenwood Writes on YouTube.
He's been an actor, comedian, podcaster, and even the Vice President of an escape room company. Since childhood, he's been a big fan of comic books, horror movies, and depressing music that fills him with existential dread.
He currently lives in New England with his girlfriend and son, and he spends his time writing, hiking, and decorating for various holidays.
His writing has been called unique, amazing and beautiful. Read what S.P. Somehow had to say about Gage’s book, Winter’s Myths.
“(Gage Greenwood is a) VISIONARY, ONE OF THE MOST ORIGINAL VOICES IN THE GENRE IN THIS NÉW CENTURY." -S.P. SOMTOW, WORLD FANTASY AWARD WINNING AUTHOR OF THE BIRD CATCHER
I became aware of Gage Greenwood when I first started lurking around the BOOKS OF HORROR Facebook group where he is a regular contributor. He stood out because his posts were genuine, heartfelt and real. He was funny and sincere and I could tell he truly had a passion for writing and telling stories. I knew immediately that he was the type of person that could further the horror genre in a positive way through his amazing talent, optimism and people first mentality.
Now let’s get to know Gage a little more.
Tell me a little about yourself.
I grew up just outside Providence, Rhode Island. Now, I live in the middle of the woods. My neighbors are deer and coyotes. I’m a stay at home dad right now, but previously, I was the Vice-President of an escape room company.
Why write horror? What is it about writing terrifying scenes that excites you?
I’ve always been attached to the genre. It’s explores the questions we tend not to want to think about: life and death, mourning, pain. It’s about exploring the dark corners people tend to avoid.
What’s the scariest book you’ve read? And why?
PET SEMATARY. The premise is that everyone you love will someday die, and there’s nothing you can do about it. I can’t think of a more terrifying theme.
What are you working on now? Is it a standalone? Part of a series?
I’m working on multiple projects. Two stand alone novels, Bunker Dogs, and On a Clear Day, You Can See Block Island. I’m also working on the third installment of my Winter’s Myths series. Winter’s Myths: The Last of Us meets Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Bunker Dogs: Panic Room meets 30 Days of Night On a Clear Day, You Can See Block Island: The Goonies meets The Fog.
Where can we find you?
I want to thank Gage Greenwood for being kind enough to share some of his life with all of us. He’s definitely busier than most authors with all his current projects and he raises the bar on productivity.
If you’re interested in any of Gage’s ebooks he’s instituted a “Pay as You Want” system on his website. His philosophy is that some readers might not be in a position to purchase his work, and those people shouldn’t be denied. Like I said earlier, Gage is a truly unique individual with a mountain of talent and a heart to match. He’s a strong presence online and a writer to watch in the Horror and Science Fiction market.
I love learning about the lives of fellow horror writers. Where they grew up, what jobs they do to keep the lights on while they toil away on their next classic horror novel. What scares them? What they’re reading? What drives them to create the stories we all love to devour? So thanks again to Gage for letting us peek behind the curtain on the life of an amazing talent!
