Dan Avernus wanted a fresh start.
Instead, he inherited a nightmare.
The island was supposed to save his family—untouched land worth millions, a once-in-a-lifetime chance to rebuild everything they’d lost. But the moment Dan sets foot on its soil, something stirs beneath the surface… something ancient, furious, and bound to his bloodline.
And it wants revenge.
Now Dan’s family is coming apart at the seams—hearing voices, seeing things in the dark, slipping into violent rages they can’t explain. They’re being watched. Manipulated. Claimed.
The more Dan uncovers, the more horrifying the truth becomes:
Revenge doesn’t die. It waits.
Avernus Island is the pulse-pounding second standalone horror novel in the Monsters & Mayhem Collection—a descent into family legacy, blood-soaked secrets, and the kind of revenge that waits centuries to strike.

I didn’t pay attention to the fact that this is Book 2 in The Monsters & Mayhem Collection and didn’t notice anything that connects the first book to this one (maybe, I’ll read it to find out). That being said, I don’t think it matters because I didn’t feel like I walked into something pre-existing.Avernus Island is creepy and dark and unsettling. It kept me interested and I had a hard putting it down. The strangeness of what happens was amazing as was the back story, showing what caused the darkness to come to this island.
The storyline was good. And it was well written. But it just didn't work for me. It was missing something. I will look for more from this author to see if it works better for me.
I don't like islands period as stories lol so maybe this wasn't a good book for me. I did enjoy it and it has a mystery creepy vibe. Its sad though all threw the book..losing a child is painful period. I feel had for this family all threw the book. Great read love this author.
It's best if you start this novel without knowing a thing about it. I think it is a superb horror novel and is a good choice for all fans of horror. The writing is very good. There is just enough description without it getting bogged down. The characters are well enough developed. This is real spooky stuff. What is calling Dan to the place where he was born and the nearby island with its terrible secrets? Dan and Sarah Avernus have lost their son but he is being called back to his home. If that type of loss puts you off, then skip this book. If not, cozy up in your favorite easy chair or recliner on a Saturday night; put a log in the fireplace; and immerse yourself! Come home! Come home to Avernus Island!
Good story progression. Very suspenseful towards the end of the story. Unexpected ending. A recommend read if you like suspense and spirits

from 853 reviewsA special penny found at a convince store is worth more than a penny. But some bad people want it. Charlie is at the right place at the wrong time writing a story. Now its a fight for survival. Hooks you from the first page and never let's go.
These books scared the hell out of me! Especially Sleepers Awake, this is one of the seriously disturbing books that I've ever read and Inread
All six were awesome. I really enjoyed each one individually but I caught the references within each story relating to the other tales.
I’ve read 2 & reviewed & loved them. The rest will be devoured soon.
I enjoyed all the books a lot different waiting for the next one in the series
Smooth store process. Easy to get the books and audio. Super easy!
Danny Devlin life was peaceful now he is thrust into a mission he never wanted. Fast paced tension filled edge of your seat read.
Patrick has brought a fun, white-knuckled thrill ride of a story to us again. In the second Danny Devlin book, we see Danny being jerked from his paradise in Greece to stow away on a cargo plane to retrieve a special key. He finds out quickly that the people that he's going against in this one, won't be an easy match. The story starts off hot with the intro of Rudy a larger-than-life man that is hiding the secret key that everyone is after. It doesn't slow down from that point on and is an intense, action-packed read. The hits keep on coming and your adrenaline won't stop pumping. Can't wait for the next installment in this series.
