I devoured this quick read in one sitting. Kids on bikes and creepy abandoned house, sign me up! Will read anything this author writes.

Fear Machine
Patrick is hands-down one of my favorite authors of all time. His storytelling? Absolutely masterful. He’s incredibly descriptive, but never in a way that feels overwhelming. He creates this slow, creeping dread, an uneasiness that settles in your chest and just lingers. I don’t know how he does it, but every time I pick up one of his books, I’m left in awe. He’s not one of those authors who plateaus… He somehow gets better with every story.
Okay, enough of me fan-girling.. let’s talk about Fear Machine.
This one is a short read, just 50 pages, but it grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. It’s bizarre, unsettling, and downright eerie. I can’t tell if the discomfort comes from the fact that the story centers around a 12-year-old boy, or if it’s just the way Patrick writes but either way, it works! I kept trying to predict what was going to happen, and I was wrong. Every. Single. Time.
So let me ask you this:
If you stumbled across a house that wasn’t supposed to be there… would you go inside?
No?
What if something you loved was in there?
Fear Machine is strange, sharp, and full of creeping dread, and I loved every page of it. Five stars, easily. If you’re looking for a quick horror story that’ll haunt your brain long after you finish, this is it.
Somethings should be left lost. Billy Mathers was an average 12 year old. Having his bike stolen made life a little harder. One day while walking the shortcut home that he'd walked a hundred times he sees something that couldn't possibly be there. A house. A creepy dilapidated house. Intense thunder and lightning push him farther towards the house and inside Billy sees his stolen bike. Entering the house is a big mistake. This is a quick but horrifying read. Grab yourself a copy and emerge yourself in a nightmare.
A Dark Breed is a fast paced, creature feature that had me racing to the end. And that ending!! I can't wait to read more from McNulty
I loved "A Dark Breed" and I never read fiction!!! It is so descriptive and detailed - like I can paint the cinematic picture in my head. :)

Wow. That’s all I can say after being rendered nearly speechless by the perfect ending of this kick ass novel. The wonderful Patrick McNulty was kind enough to send me a copy of his second book, Avernus island, from his Monsters and Mayhem series, and though both books can be read independently, I decided I wanted to start with the first book from the series. Which led me to this magnificent piece of Horror, it was incredibly fast paced, full of scares and twists and turns,full of heartache and despair, and the ultimate drive of what would you do to save your family? I’ve already started Avernus Island and I cannot wait to read more from the great author!
"God of the Dead" - in a word: OUTSTANDING! I can’t say I’m surprised by how good Patrick McNulty’s new book is: being the third entry in his Monsters & Mayhem Collection of standalone horror books, it’s the work of an experienced writer, who knows both how to make you care about the characters and the story and how to keep your interest alive throughout the book.
‘God of the Dead’ is anything but a slow-burn, it’s very fast-paced, with short chapters, sharp dialogue, spooky situations, and above all, it’s action-packed! The action is literally non-stop, and the spirit of adventure is quite infectious: I could actually feel the raw emotion these people felt, I could relate to their plight, and root for them! And what a plight: a small-town sheriff with her wife, trying to protect a possessed sixteen-year-old girl from her para-military captors, are forced to go through hell: they fight, they’re hunted, they resist, they lose people, they face death head-on, their love for each other convincingly realistic, without any unnecessary drama. McNulty also keeps the horror elements on a tight leash: he has every chance and every reason to overdo it, allow his story to turn into a sort of “Stranger Things” for adults, but he never goes overboard – everything is explained precisely, somberly, the horror absolutely needed for the plot, driving the story to its explosive ending! The fight and shooting scenes are beautifully descriptive, cinematic, and detailed. Towards the end, an atmosphere reminiscent of apocalypse stories dominates, giving us a glimpse of how a zombie story would feel in McNulty’s hands (it’d be terrific!)
In sum, you simply cannot go wrong with this book; it hits all the marks, no fluff! Come along for the bumpy ride, there’s plenty of action, good old horror, and never a dull moment! Do not miss this winner!
Thank you thank you thank you Patrick McNulty, for "Avernus Island"! The new standalone entry in ‘The Monsters & Mayhem Collection’ is a slow-burn, yet I couldn’t put it down, and before I knew it, I was already 100 pages in! McNulty’s descriptions perfectly set the scene, the thick atmosphere of dread is slowly creeping on you as the reality of the situation is revealed bit by bit. Again, we have a family facing a sinister menace; this time, though, the argument could be made they deserve it. The fact of the matter is that past family crimes are not so easily forgotten, however innocent the next generation may consider themselves to be. The ones that were unjustly wronged seek their revenge and will stop at nothing. Making things worse, there’s family trauma, due to the loss of a child; there’s greed, there’s short-sightedness, there’s so much history and sadness. And the horror of it all, described so richly, so accurately, you can literally feel the jump-scares, the nightmarish chills; and that ending – so troubling and heartbreaking! A truly amazing book!
"A Dark Breed" is the kind of book that makes a reviewer’s life pure heaven! McNulty has crafted a superb horror novel, full of atmosphere and dread, with characters to root for, and an ending that really, really hurts. Even with that devastating ending, however, I wouldn't change a thing: I was enraptured with the setting, the characters, the plot, and although there are very few answers given, I couldn’t help myself getting more and more invested in everything happening to them. The descriptions were so vivid, the interactions between parents and children so realistic and down-to-earth! Such an exciting read throughout. Plotwise, the book is a straightforward creature feature: the premise has a family lost in a snowstorm up on the mountains, finding a cabin to shelter in, not realizing that it’s the place used by a cryptozoologist to study some totally unknown but very nasty (and hungry) creatures. They free a woman imprisoned in a cage, thinking they are doing good; all hell breaks loose right after. Monsters and mayhem, indeed!; I wonder what’s next for this series! Highly recommended!
