What if someone was out there fighting for you?

Hey ,

There’s a feeling I love at the end of a really good true-crime documentary.

You’ve spent the last hour watching something awful.

Someone has been murdered.

A family has been destroyed.

A monster has been walking around free.

And for most of the documentary, you’re left wondering if the person responsible is ever going to pay for what they’ve done.

Then the pieces finally come together.

The detectives figure it out.

The evidence is there.

The killer is caught.

And when you finally see those handcuffs go on...

you breathe a little easier.

Because for once, the good guys won.

I think that feeling is part of why true crime is so incredibly popular.

Not because we enjoy the darkness.

But because we desperately want to see justice win.

Because there is an awful lot of darkness in the real world.

Every day, there’s another story.

Another innocent person hurt.

Another family devastated.

Another person who seems to have gotten away with something terrible.

And sometimes I find myself wishing for something that probably doesn't exist.

Someone out there fighting in the shadows.

Someone who sees the things the rest of us don't see.

Someone who finds the people who prey on the innocent.

Someone who doesn't care about money, recognition or whether anyone ever knows his name.

Someone who simply believes that some people need to be stopped.

And sometimes I take that thought one step further.

I think about my family.

The people I love.

And I wonder...

Wouldn't it be nice to know that someone was out there watching?

Someone on our side.

Someone who would step in when the system couldn't.

Someone who would make damn sure the bad guys didn't get the last word.

That's where Danny Devlin came from.

He's not a superhero.

He's not perfect.

He's not always going to play by the rules.

He's just a man who refuses to accept that evil should always have the advantage.

And when someone crosses the wrong line...

Danny goes looking for them.

Maybe that's why I love writing him.

Because in Danny's world, there's always someone willing to fight back.

The innocent aren't forgotten.

The monsters don't always win.

And justice...

sometimes arrives from the shadows.

I think we all need a little bit of that.

Especially these days.

Because sometimes you can't fix what's happening in the real world.

Sometimes you can't protect everyone you love.

Sometimes all you can do is hope.

And sometimes, hope is all you have.
