I have a weakness for a very specific kind of action movie.
Give me a movie where some mysterious stranger rolls into town, keeps to himself, doesn't say much, and somehow ends up standing between a bunch of innocent people and some very bad men...
I'm in.
It's one of the oldest stories in the Western genre.
The stranger rides into town.
He sees what's happening.
Someone tells him to mind his own business.
He probably should.
But then somebody hurts an innocent person.
And that's when the stranger makes a very bad decision for himself...
He decides to get involved.
I LOVE that story.
Maybe it's because there's something incredibly satisfying about watching someone who doesn't need anything from anybody decide to stand up for the little guy.
That's why movies likeUnforgivenhave always stuck with me.
And it's the same reason I loveThe Equalizertrilogy.
Robert McCall isn't looking for trouble.
He's not trying to be a hero.
He's just going about his business until he sees someone being victimized by people who think they're untouchable.
And then...
Well...
They discover they're not.
😂
That's my kind of entertainment.
So naturally, when I started writing my own action hero, I couldn't resist stealing that basic idea.
Except I gave mine a military background.
A lot more baggage.
A really bad temper.
And absolutely no interest in being anybody's hero.
His name isDanny Devlin.
Danny is a tough, brutal ex-soldier who's been through hell and isn't particularly interested in going back.
He's dangerous.
He's damaged.
He's not exactly what you'd call emotionally available.
And if you're one of the bad guys who happens to cross his path...
You're probably having a very bad day.
But here's the thing about Danny.
Underneath all the scars, anger and violence is something he tries very hard to hide.
He has a heart of gold.
He just doesn't advertise it.
Danny doesn't go looking for trouble.
But trouble has a funny way of finding him.
And when it does, Danny becomes something of a wrecking ball.
That's really why I wrote the series.
I wanted to create the kind of character I love watching in movies:
The stranger who walks into the wrong town.
The guy everyone underestimates.
The guy who doesn't care about money, fame or recognition.
The guy who sees somebody being pushed around and thinks...
“Yeah. That's not happening.”
Then everything goes sideways.
😂
So if you're a fan of Westerns, revenge movies, gritty action thrillers, or those stories where the bad guys make the catastrophic mistake of picking on the wrong person...
