MASTERS OF HORROR: SCOTT WILSON

1. What first drew you to horror—and was it something you experienced, feared, or imagined?

I was always a morbid kid, drawing people getting eaten by sharks when my class mates were drawing zoo animals. I started writing horror when I eight and my teacher called my mum in to see her...

2. How do you tap into real fear when writing—do you draw from your own nightmares, or do you create new ones?

I am lucky to live opposite a big forest and any free time I like to walk it and get lost in my thoughts.

3. Have you ever written something that disturbed even you—a moment where the story took a darker turn than expected?

I wrote a book called Black Haven and it took a different direction that i didn’t even see coming. Going from horror to crime. I don’t write or read crime but writing it I delved into some dark parts of society. The monsters became real, they were human.

4. If your stories had the power to summon something into the real world... what do you think you've already unleashed?

One of my short stories tilted - feathered friend - is based on truth. A pillow my wife has had for over 40 years coming to life-I still keep away from it now.

5. How do you keep horror feeling fresh and terrifying when so many tropes are well-trodden?

I try and do different things.
I’m my collection of short stores I really get to try all subjects- ghosts - gore - madness - aliens - creatures etc.
I have great fun writing those.

Bonus: Tell me about your latest project and where we can find it.

By the end of June my third book of short stories called - a head full of demons - will be available on Amazon as well as my slasher camp novel named - Camp Creed.
They are just being proof read.
In the mean time I have returned to the darkness of Black Haven... I hope I leave there sane.

My other eleven books are all on Amazon.
